• Proposal to Host a Water Science Exchange

  • CUAHSI is seeking support from our member organizations as we plan to host 5 regionally distributed Water Science Exchanges between 2026 - 2028! Each event will foundationally be built around skill-building and science catalyst workshops.

    Longtime members of the CUAHSI community may be familiar with the CUAHSI Biennial meeting. These gatherings are intended to build on that tradition, preserving the best of in-person networking while expanding capacity building opportunities, and broadening accessibility.

    CUAHSI is in search of host institutions as we begin planning 2027 and 2028 meetings. Each year will have a Spring and Fall meeting.

  • Program Information  

    Geographic distribution: Each of the 5 workshops will be held in different regions within the US to make meetings more locally accessible to different geographic regions and a broad swath of institutions, while also allowing the opportunity to tailor the meeting to local topics of interest. We encourage host institutions to consider their institutions' proximity to audiences new to the CUAHSI community and partnerships with local PUIs or other nearby institutions. 

    Size: We expect these meetings to attract 80 - 150 attendees. The host institution would provide meeting and classroom space to welcome attendees on-site. 

    Format: We expect these meetings will be 2.5 days long and involve the following, and will work with the host institution to refine programming. 

    • Multiple tracks of hands-on training sessions arranged by CUAHSI and solicited from the community
    • Invited sessions on regional and national science topics
    • Poster sessions
    • Support for launching and sustaining collaborative water science research
    • Field trips or other visits to local areas of interest

    Theme: Each Water Science Exchange will be organized around a broad theme that anchors certain sessions and invited talks while leaving ample room for the full range of CUAHSI training, data science, and community programming. Themes are meant to create a rallying point for regional water science conversations, not limit who attends or what gets covered. We encourage host institutions to propose a theme that reflects the water challenges and scientific strengths of their region.

  • By hosting a Water Science Exchange, your institution will…

    • have the opportunity to contribute to the planning process and help shape the event agenda.
    • help gather community around a particular topic, and as the name suggests, catalyse new collaborations. 
    • strengthen local research networks and partnerships. 
    • provide opportunities for their students and other early career researchers to gain skills, presentation experience, and a network beyond their home institution. 
    • build capacity in its community by providing training.
    • ensure staff and students have opportunities to be exposed to CUAHSI broad portfolio of trainings, tools, and connections.
    • receive an impact summary showing participation, institutional reach, and downstream engagement outcomes generated by CUAHSI.
